About

Women Initiative for Sustainable Empowerment

In 2019, a visionary young couple in Uganda, deeply moved by the crippling poverty in their home villages of Butaleja and Fort Portal, witnessed the heartbreaking effects of economic hardship. Families were being torn apart, domestic violence was on the rise, and countless young girls were being forced out of school, their futures left uncertain and at risk.
Determined to spark change and Inspired by the voices of the affected, Women Initiative for Sustainable Empowerment (WISE) was born with a clear mission: to empower women to break the chains of poverty and reach their fullest potential. Through innovative, effective and sustainable approaches, WISE is driving transformative change, empowering women, uplifting entire communities and shaping a future where women lead and thrive.

#Agricultural Livelihoods

Agriculture and Environment

Agricultural growth helps reduce poverty. In Uganda, where 69% of households obtain their livelihood from subsistence farming, the agricultural sector is an important component of gross domestic product, and a major source of employment in addition to being the country’s primary source of food.WISE helps smallholder farmers improve their productivity and diversify their income streams.
