Welcome to Women Initiative for Sustainable Empowerment (WISE)
In 2019, a visionary young couple in Uganda, deeply moved by the crippling poverty in their home villages of Butaleja and Fort Portal, witnessed the heartbreaking effects of economic hardship. Families were being torn apart, domestic violence was on the rise, and countless young girls were being forced out of school, their futures left uncertain and at risk.
Determined to spark change and Inspired by the voices of the affected, Women Initiative for Sustainable Empowerment (WISE) was born with a clear mission: to empower women to break the chains of poverty and reach their fullest potential. Through innovative, effective and sustainable approaches, WISE is driving transformative change, empowering women, uplifting entire communities and shaping a future where women lead and thrive.

Why We Exist

Uganda is one of the youngest countries in the world, with about 85 per cent of the population living in rural areas, of which 73.3 per cent are engaged in subsistence agriculture. In addition to supporting livelihoods, the agriculture sector is driven mainly by women, yet they are consistently excluded from important decision-making processes that affect them. Why We Exist

WISE believes that women are a great asset to the development of the nation; therefore, with the right guidance and support using an integrated rural development approach, they can make a significant and tangible contribution to creating the conditions within which the rural poor and especially women and youth can address their livelihood needs.

WISE's THEORY OF CHANGE

WISE's THEORY OF CHANGE

WISE’s Theory of Change is centred on a holistic and sustainable empowerment. We believe that communities are self-sustainable when organised. Our Theory of Change is rooted in three main pillars;

  • Empowering women by deliberately involving men.
  • Mobilizing people to become authors of their own change.
  • Partnering with development centered Institutions, Organizations and Governments.
